When the hospital doors opened, patients weren’t lined up waiting for treatment.  The white doctor was strange and it took some time to get buy-in from the local community.  But one day, the family of a teen-age girl was desperate, they had nothing to lose by coming to the hospital.  She had been living with an infected piece of fractured bone in her skull.  The wound was full of pus.

Dr. Long removed the bone and drained the infection.  The girl made a full recovery which lead to more patients coming for treatment.
